As I have mentioned and will continue to mention because it’s important to talk about, I am neurodivergent, officially ADHD. I was diagnosed at 40 and have managed it unmedicated now for over a year. I tried the med route…and that didn’t work for me…but no hate here, if you need meds, they can be wonderful and life-changing!

I was not a typical ADHD person, as I really excelled in school and went on to get multiple degrees and have a very successful career. It was only when I was placed in a situation where I lacked the prebuilt structures that my life fell apart and my ADHD symptoms were brought to the forefront. I could not get organized and was getting zero done.

As it turns out, people with ADHD operate well within other people’s expectations. It’s one of our fatal flaws. Some people use body doubling or other methods just to get things done. We are very sensitive beings and often times our energy gets mixed up with others and we struggle with boundaries, all of this can lead to other mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

This causes us to be incredibly disorganized as we tend to cycle through analysis paralysis and hyperfocus cycles. So mundane things like dishes and laundry and other “endless” chores tend to fall by the wayside, because who likes to do the same things all the time…not me…boring! Im so thankful again to my husband for totally picking up my slack on a lot of the housework! But organizing our business and our household finances was a different story and one that I, obviously had to take charge of.

Notion is a resource I heard about for the first time on a podcast called The 12th House. She uses Notion for what she calls her second brain. She also is neurodivergent so I figured if she can use it to get herself organized so can I. I am going on 2 years with Notion and it has transformed my organizational skills…even with ADHD.
